To die without regret

When being afraid to die, what are you really afraid of?

Of losing your friends, family and acquaintances? Or of losing the enjoyments of life – for instance the pleasure of eating, having intercourse, of winning contests?

All of these are intrinsic to your humanness – if there is a core inside you which will live on, it is natural for this core not to need, in fact not to care about all of these things.

Consider:

  • You need food to fuel your body – thus it is deemed pleasant
  • You need to have sex so the human race continues existing – thus it was made pleasant
  • You need a social network to survive – thus it is deemed important to have friends.

Looking beyond human reasons to an inner core is not always easy, but it can make this very existence more pleasurable – enough is enough.
